A Dream Fulfilled

To me, one of the most fascinating things God created our minds to do is to dream while we sleep.  I actually look forward to these little “movies” playing across my mind at night.  The sheer creative process that is taking place in formulating a dream is so amazing to me!  Dreams can range from the bizarre and even frightening, to funny and inspiring.  My favorite dreams are when I am able to “be with” lost loved ones.  Those are the ones I cherish most.

Many times you are able to relate a particular dream to something that took place earlier in the day. Or perhaps it was something you watched on television soon before you went to sleep, when your mind is becoming very relaxed.  Often dreams become a morphed version from a seed that was recently planted in the subconscious.

Not everyone dreams or remembers their dreams.  For those who do, it’s not an every night occurrence.  My husband and I happen to be “deep dreamers”, for lack of a better term.  Our dreams are very vivid and we talk about them all the time—sometimes in the night or the next morning.  We tend to remember our dreams upon waking, and even throughout the day.  I can still remember dreams from years past.

I love to ponder the dreams of Jesus as he slumbered here on earth.  Did he dream of creation days, his boyhood, or his future reign perhaps?  Just think of all the ways and times God entered into the dreams of man with a particular message!

As far back as Genesis, God came to Abimelek in a dream one night. Also in Genesis we see that Joseph was given the ability to interpret dreams. God ascribes to David: understanding visions and dreams of all kinds.

From the book of Numbers we read: Listen to my words: “When there is a prophet among you, I, the LORD, reveal myself to them in visions, I speak to them in dreams. Job thoroughly acknowledged that God speaks to us in our dreams.  In Joel 2:28, we find these familiar words: And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.

Perhaps most familiar to us are the New Testament passages concerning angels of the Lord coming to Joseph through his dreams on numerous occasions.  First, to acknowledge the truth of Mary’s pregnancy, then subsequently, giving direction to aid in the protection of the Christ-child.

For us dreamers, a very common dream—especially as a youngster—was the ability to fly!  It just recently dawned on me that this is one dream that will one day come true. We will fly to Jesus!

Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Then we will be with the Lord forever1 Thessalonians 4:17
