A Tale of Tails

When it comes to the quintessential fast food we all crave, most agree McDonald’s is the clear winner.  For me, it’s the subtle nuances of the minced onion, the Fancy ketchup, the soft bun and the petite cut fries.  The best part?  No matter what location you visit, it ALWAYS tastes the same!  You can count on it, that’s the gospel truth.

Imagine pulling up to order your Big Mac, and the voice in the box informs you of their menu change–they’ve decided to go with oxen tails and a side of slaw.  WAIT.  Whaat?!

In nursing school we learned that humans require a certain amount of “sameness” to their days, in order to achieve a certain level of “saneness”.  We simply cannot thrive in total chaos.  God says He never changes.  That may sound rigid and obstinate to some.  On the contrary, it’s the one thing we can always count on.

Unlike man, God never lies, cheats, leaves, or divorces you.  He will never disappoint you and He will never, ever turn from you–you only need to call upon His name.  Once you’ve done that, He will begin to still the chaos of your soul.  He will flood your heart with peace, and bring an utter sense of contentment over your life.

Everything that has come before, anything and everything that has kept you from Him up to this point is completely gone. Whatever obstacles may have stood in the way, the dam has now broken, it’s all been washed away.  It’s as if there was never a separation at all.  That moment, turning to Him, is all that matters.  Your sinful past is as far from God as the east is from the west.  And He’ll go the distance to keep you safe in His love.  In fact, He already has.  Jesus, the Great Shepherd, the Bridegroom is coming back for the church, His bride.

“Even for deathbed conversions, will He come”, you may ask?  Yep, even then.  He knows whats truly in our hearts.  But don’t wait until then…it doesn’t change the outcome, but it sure does rob you of the joy and peace that was yours to experience along life’s way.

It’s long been said that God accepts us where we are, but once we turn to Him, He loves us enough not to keep us there.  He never changes His mind about wanting us, loving us, forgiving us or growing us–even when we come to Him tucking our (non-oxen) tails behind us.  That’s the Gospel truth!

Can I get an amen?  Thanks!

OK, let’s dish:  What’s your favorite fast or comfort food when you want to just chow down on life’s hurts or frustrations or even celebrations?  Also, what is one thing you absolutely refuse to eat.  Like ever!

Okay, I’ll go first:  Surprise!  McD’s is my absolute fav.  I knew you’d never guess that.  And while I do partake in it, the absolute worse thing that I hate having to eat are my words!;)
